Being fat is not so bad, but the risks it brings are. Obesity is a condition in which a person has an unhealthy amount and distribution of body fat. If you have excessive amounts of body fat, you may have chronic low level inflammation, which can, over time, cause DNA damage that leads to cancer.
Overweight and obese individuals are more likely than normal weight individuals to have conditions or disorders that are linked to or that cause chronic local inflammation and that are risk factors for certain cancers.
One study in 2007 estimated about 34,000 men and 50,500 women got cancer due to obesity. Although being overweight may not necessarily cause cancer, it has been identified as a risk factor for several types of cancer.
With the existing trend in obesity, the study projected additional 500,000 cases of cancer in the United States by 2030. Obese people show increased levels of insulin and IGF-1 in their blood, which promotes the development of cancer.
Fat cells produce the adipokines hormones that can stimulate or inhibit cell growth. Obese people often have chronic low level or subacute inflammation in addition to its direct and indirect effects on other tumor growth regulators, which is associated with increased risks for cancer.
A 2016 study summarizing worldwide estimates of the fractions of different cancers attributable to overweight/obesity reported that, compared with other countries, the United States had the highest fractions attributable to overweight/obesity for colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and postmenopausal breast cancer.

The fat tissues produce excess estrogen. High levels of estrogen have been associated with breast, endometrial, and other types of cancer.
Obese people tend to promote the development of certain tumors because of their increased levels of insulin. The condition is called hyperinsulinemia.
The fat cells also produce the adipokine hormones. The adipokines inhibit cell growth. The leptin hormones, which tend to be dominant among obese people, are likely to promote cell proliferation.
The chronic low level or subacute inflammation found among obese people usually increase cancer risk. Other causes are their altered immune system and oxidative stress levels.
A review of more than a thousand studies has found solid evidence that being overweight or obese increases the risk for at least 13 types of cancer. The study was conducted by a working group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization.
This new review, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, links an additional eight cancers to excess fat: gastric cardia, a cancer of the part of the stomach closest to the esophagus; liver cancer; gallbladder cancer; pancreatic cancer; thyroid cancer; ovarian cancer; meningioma, a usually benign type of brain tumor; and multiple myeloma, a blood cancer.
For some cancers, the group found that the fatter the person, the greater the risk. The number of cancer cases caused by being obese is estimated to be 20% with the increased risk of malignancies being influenced by diet, weight change, and body fat distribution together with physical activity.
The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing worldwide, and the evidence base for a link between obesity and cancer is growing. In the United States, approximately 85,000 new cancer cases per year are related to obesity.
Recent research has found that as the body mass index increases by 5 kg/m2, cancer mortality increases by 10%. Obesity continues to be one of the critical health issues worldwide. A 2005 pooled analysis indicated that approximately 937 million adults worldwide are overweight and 396 million are obese.
Postmenopausal breast cancer
Several studies found that overweight and obese individuals have been associated with the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer. The relationship seems to be at a stage when the women became obese.

Researchers found that people who are addicted to food tend to eat more and more while feeling less and less satisfied. In addition, stopping the behavior has become a primary problem among individuals with food addiction.
Despite getting fat and obese, individuals with food addiction continue to eat despite its negative consequences. The individual often overindulge and eat beyond what is required for satiety and human nutrition.
A food addict often re-engage in this destructive behavior amidst the undesired consequence of obesity. The induced feelings of pleasure trigger the ferocious cycle of food addiction.
So, what is exactly going on here? It turns out that hunger is a pretty complicated function. Even if you are eating something at every meal, if your day looks something like this, a cup of sugary, flaked cereal for breakfast, a slice of pizza or a sandwich on white bread for lunch, chips for a snack, either white rice or pasta for dinner, and then a chocolate chip for dessert, your problem is that you are constantly fueling yourself with nutritionally deficient refined carbs.
Lacking the satiating fiber of their original form, simple and refined carbs burn up quickly in your body, which spikes your blood sugar and then causes it to crash. Low glucose levels are what triggers your hunger hormones, leaving you with a craving for more carbs!
Everyone knows that you eat with your eyes, but it turns out, your ears also play a role. A new study, published in the journal Food Quality and Preference, tested how perception of the sound of eating food affects our eating habits. It turned out that those who listened to music while eating, ate more than those that could hear the food they were eating.
Hunger hormones take anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes to get to your brain, so if you wolf down your entire meal in under 5 minutes, you’ll most likely eat more than your fill.
Scientists believe it’s because your hunger hormones act in a relay, passing off feelings of fullness between each other before telling your brain. This system takes some time to work, which is why it’s best to eat slowly. Yet another reason why fast food makes you fat.
As it turns out, scrolling through your social feeds is just as bad for your gut as seeking out the trending treats themselves. A review published in the journal Brain and Cognition found that when you see food images or videos, it exacerbates the desire for food through a channel of neural and physical responses called visual hunger.
In other words, even if you are not physically in need of food, your body will send a signal to your brain that you want to eat. Scientists found that the concentration of the hunger hormone ghrelin increases in response to seeing food images.
What causes food addiction? There are many social, psychological, and biological factors that influence the progression of a food addiction. In addition, hormonal imbalances, side effects of medications, and abnormalities in the brain structure may turn an individual into a food addict.
This behavior results in digestive issues, obesity, heart disease, depression, and isolation. The usual symptoms are eating more food than one can tolerate or up to the point of feeling ill, eating in secret, feeling a decreased of energy, restlessness, sleep disorders, irritability, suicidal ideations, and eating even if not hungry.
How do you help people from food addiction? The best way is to motivate the individual to develop a healthy diet meal plan.
This nutritious, well-balanced meal could help lose the fat and prevent from eating more. Should I say it again – count your calories and don’t feed your body with sugar!
Whether it is diet or regular, soda is one of the sugariest foods you can consume. Sugar makes you crave sugar. Artificially sweetened products and sugar alternatives can actually ramp up your appetite even more than real sugar, causing increased calorie consumption over time.
Canned goods are easy and convenient, but they contain bisphenol A or BPA. BPA is a hormone-mimicking chemical used to prevent foods from coming in contact with the metal cans in which they’re stored, and it’s found in 67 percent of all canned food.
